The Seventh “Huayang Talk” Academic Salon was Held in Haikou

On May 21, Huayang Center for Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance and the National Institute for South China Sea Studies (NISCSS) jointly hosted the seventh "Huayang Talk" academic salon titled "Effectively Responding to the Diaoyu Island Dispute – Crisis Management in the East China Sea" at the Haikou Office of the Huayang Center.

Wu Shicun, Chairman of the Huayang Center and Chairman of the Academic Committee of NISCSS, presided over the event.

Wang Jian, Non-Resident Research Fellow at the Huayang Center and Research Fellow at the Institute of Chinese History at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), drew on his professional experience to offer an in-depth analysis of the historical origins of the Diaoyu Island issue, the security landscape in the East China Sea, and the Taiwan Strait issue under the framework of Sino-Japanese relations. He also placed particular emphasis upon the urgency and necessity of conducting Track II diplomacy between China and Japan in the current volatile international environment.

Over 40 participants from the Huayang Center, NISCSS, Hainan University, Hainan Normal University, Xinhua News Agency Hainan Bureau, and Today Hainan magazine attended the event.

During the event, the Huayang Center also held a ceremony for the appointment of Non-Resident Research Fellows. Wu Shicun presented appointment certificates to Wang Jian and Zheng Zemin, Research fellow at the South China Sea Region Culture Research Center of Hainan Normal University.
