The Symposium on Global Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance (SGMCOG) was inaugurated in November 2020, which brought together over 500 participants and audience from different regions both online and offline, including eminent experts and scholars from marine-related research institutes around the world, foreign diplomats based in China, heads of relevant international organizations, officials from marine-related government departments in China and other countries, and journalists from media outlets.

The SGMCOG 2021 continued to offer an international platform for thought-provoking dialogues and promote academic research and exchange on maritime cooperation and ocean governance. It was conducted in hybrid format with both online and offline attendance. A meeting venue was set in Sanya, Hainan, China for participants and observers in China.
